It’s wonderful that Lego has created these kits for children of every physical and mental ability. The fact that this company is inclusive for all says a lot for them. As I have a family member who has a disability, I found that the Lego dots were a very good tool for him to use. He has progressed past this and is now using kits for children older than eight. The kits allow children with autistic and other disabilities to have creative and yet structured play, and these kits do that wonderfully. The article discusses the way Lego has developed these products and the Creative way children can use them. Very well done!
Deedee Whitehead
Hey Deedee,
Thanks for the warm words! I’m genuinely happy to hear about your family member progressing with the Lego sets. It’s a testament to how adaptive and beneficial these kits can be. The Dots line was a personal favorite for my kiddo for a while too – something about those tiny colorful pieces just grabs their attention!
I appreciate your feedback on the article. I sometimes worry I get a bit rambly or miss the mark, but it’s reassuring to hear that it resonated with you. If you ever want to swap Lego stories or tips, just drop a comment. Would love to hear more about your family’s journey with them.
Take care and happy building!
Lou.
Thanks for highlighting the many options that Lego offers for children with autism. I had no idea that there were so many options they offer that are specifically tailored to all children throughout the spectrum of severities. Most certainly I can imagine that these kits will be helpful.
In my experience, autism was not a huge thing in the past. However, these days it is a more common occurrence, and toys and companies that can help I appreciate. In our family, I have a granddaughter who suffers from autism, and it can be a taxing thing for parents.
Now that I know of the options that Lego has on offer, you can bet that I will be asking my daughter what might be appropriate for the next birthday gift that I purchase! I have bookmarked the page here so I can then go directly to the option that best fits my needs. Thanks for your research and posting of this article!
Hey Dave,
Wow, it’s funny how you mention not hearing much about autism in the past – I used to feel the same way. Nowadays, with more awareness, it seems like we’re all becoming more educated on the topic, which is a positive thing! I’m truly sorry to hear about your granddaughter; it must be quite a journey for your family.
Honestly, I didn’t really grasp how versatile Lego could be until I dove into this subject. I’m delighted that you found the article helpful. And trust me, birthdays with Lego can turn out to be magical. Your granddaughter is lucky to have such a thoughtful grandparent.
Hope you and your family find the right set. All the best, mate!
Cheers,
Lou.
Working with children with autism can be very challenging. But it becomes easier when you find the right tools. It makes it more fun for the parent and child. I am attracted to Lego Friend’s Sea Rescue and Lego City Fire Station because of their direct effort to help children with autism develop social skills. Socialisation is one of the challenges I see with children with autism. We must do all that is possible to help them break the barriers.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Parameter. Socialization is indeed an ever-expanding issue for many children with autism. Your emphasis on finding the right tools resonates with me, as I’ve had firsthand experience with the challenges and rewards. I have a niece that has autism and we are always looking for products that can assist and stimulate her. So this is a very helpful article on lego that is specifically suitable for autistic kids.
She has mild autism and loves fantasy, so Harry Potter would be a great choice for her. You mention the Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Magical Trunk set, but are there other Harry Potter sets that would also be suitable for autistic kids? Thank you for your advise.
Thank you for your query, LineCowley. The LEGO Harry Potter series indeed provides a magical touch that can captivate the imagination of many children, especially those fond of fantasy. While the Hogwarts Magical Trunk set is a great option, there are other sets within this theme that might align with your niece’s interests. However, when choosing the right set, it’s crucial to consider the child’s age and their specific place on the spectrum to ensure an appropriate and enjoyable building experience. Exploring the entire Harry Potter LEGO range can offer a clearer picture, allowing you to select a set that best matches her age and developmental needs. If you’d like, please send me an email with her age and more details about her spectrum level, and I can provide a tailored list for you to consider. Always here to assist with more information or recommendations.

What an informative and thoughtful guide on using LEGO sets for children with autism!
The scientific backing behind the benefits of LEGO play is particularly reassuring. It’s pretty awesome to find out that research has shown how playing with building blocks like LEGO can actually boost social skills, problem-solving smarts, and help kids with autism focus better.
I haven’t had much experience with LEGO myself, but I’m really interested in giving it a shot with my child. Do you think it’s relatively easy for a grown-up like me to get the hang of it and help my child with it? Would it be better if we both play with it together?
Hello miadinh,
Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to read the guide! I’m thrilled to hear that you found the scientific insights reassuring.
To answer your question, absolutely! LEGO is designed to be intuitive, and many adults find it both enjoyable and therapeutic. It’s actually quite common for parents to discover their love for LEGO alongside their children. Playing together can be a wonderful bonding experience, and it allows you to guide and support your child as they explore and create. It’s not just about building structures, but also about building memories and fostering connection. Dive in and enjoy the journey with your little one!
